Do you know the following brands, but not the story of their creation? Intersport Tignes le Lac has information on them:

O’Neill, the surf brand, was founded in 1952 when a young man named Jack O’Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to beat Mother Nature at her own game.

Pioneering the world’s first neoprene surf wetsuit, Jack opened up his first surf shop in his garage in Santa Cruz.

While many things have changed since those humble beginnings, Jack’s initial vision of producing functional and innovative board riding products continues to lie at the core of everything the company does.

O’Neill’s set of core values – innovation in style and technology – has seen the brand devote itself wholeheartedly to the evolution of action sports. O’Neill now has a global reputation.

Burton is the global leader in the snowboard market, with a 30 to 35% market share. Founded in 1977 by Canadian Jake Burton Carpenter, the company specialises in snowboarding: equipment, clothing and accessories.

As well as selling products under its own brand, Burton has created sub-brands dedicated to other domains: Anon Optics (snowboard and ski goggles), R.E.D. Protection (helmets and safety gear), Analog Outerwear and Gravis Footwear.

In 2005, Burton bought out the following 4 snowboard brands from Four Star Distribution: Forum Snowboarding, Jeenyus Snowboards, Foursquare Outerwear and Special Blend (SB) Outerwear. Burton also owns the TV Channel Island Surf Co.

Burton's professional snowboarding team members are Shaun White, Jeremy Jones and Terje Haakonsen. Burton's boss spent 113 days riding last year and every autumn organises a "Fall Bash" for all his employees and friends in Stowe, Vermont (USA), featuring a band such as the alternative rock group The Presidents of the United States of America.

Aigle is a French outdoor sport brand with 150 years' experience of developing unique skills and designing high performance products for all outdoor sports and activities.

Aigle has always focused on the relationship between Mankind and Nature, thereby favouring technical innovations in the service of protecting people and increasing their enjoyment.

And the brand is guided by the conviction that: "we feel better outdoors than indoors".

ODLO was founded in 1946 by Odd Roar Lofterød senior, cross-country skiing champion of the canton of Oslo in 1933, who ran the company until 1979. His lifelong motto was "Always one step ahead!" both in sport and in life.

After a successful experience in a clothing factory, where he acquired technical skills, he laid down the foundations of ODLO FABRIKKER A/S in 1946, never for an instant doubting his future success.

The key stages in brand development:

  • 1963: launch of the first functional stretch ski suit in Helanca, a revolutionary synthetic fibre
  • 1973: introduction of ODLO TERMIC, the first 100% synthetic sports underwear
  • 1987: launch of the ATHLETIC CLOTHING SYSTEM, based on the principle of overlapping layers of clothes: the underwear draws off the perspiration generated by action, while the intermediate and outer layers protect the body from wind and climatic conditions.
  • 1999: a new motto "ODLO - Go Global" with numerous affiliates across the world, with a 370-strong workforce .

In 1983 an extreme skier, Patrick Valençant, created the Degre7 brand in Chamonix, Haute Savoie.

In 1997, this brand joined the Avance Distribution group, whose cutting edge technical concepts led to continuous innovation in terms of materials and styles, in order to offer the most demanding sportspeople a range of high performance clothing to be worn in extreme conditions.

Some applications of the Degré 7 brand: stretch lines, laser-cut fused pockets, watertight zips … All these cutting edge technological advances have led to the production of 4 specific lines: Technical, Duvillard, Crossover and Kids.
